pickathon

My favorite person in the whole world (Mark) told me about this annual folk-fest of sorts in Portland called PICKATHON. I am in LURVE with it. Based on the samples of the artists playing that they have available to listen to via streaming techonolog, I'm already considering spending a wad of cash to go out there next year to square dance my blues away...you should also consider it.

I grew up in a small town where bluegrass and folk music ran rampant and, after a highly unplanned, drug and alcohol fueld roadtrip in college through Tennessee and Kentucky, my love of such music grew ten thousand-fold.

Many of the bands listed below are made up of my extremely talented friends, acquaintances, conquests, or maybe even the dude at the corner deli by my apartment. I love them, you should at least listen to them once. Unless you are deaf, in which case I recommend you put on the album, turn it up really, really loud and sit right next to the speaker and FEEL the music.

The Tombstone Brawlers (my friends Eric and Pete are involved in this mess) are veterans of the NYC/NJ rockabilly scene and are a super-slappin' force to be reckoned with! Bastards of American psychobilly! Insanity-a-go-go!
