05.04.08 Hey everybody! Look at me! I'm updating my website! Holy cow. It's because THIS time, I've got some car-related fun in my life to share with those who haven't already seen the pictures. Recently I took a trip out to Portland, Oregon to visit my lovely man-friend Mark, illustrator of all things death-metal related, and while there I had a chance to spend some time exploring the city on bike. One of the things I had already sort of known about the city was that it is FILLED with classic cars. Mark had been shooting photos of them while riding his bike in his daily travels, and I was not only surprised but extraordinarily jealous that he got to see so many lovely pieces of machinery in the course of a day. Determined to hunt down some vintage steel of my own, I cruised up and down side streets with camera in pocket and what resulted was a pretty decent Flickr set of car pictures. I thought I'd share a few of them with you here! |

Mark used to have a '64 Dart just like the last one, only it was a beatifully offensive lime green. Long since sold, it still makes him sad to think about it. I can completely understand. I looked around on the internet for some kind of Portland car club, mostly because I figured that with all these people driving classics around, they'd band together to hang out and shoot the shit about their rides. I did happen to find a |

| group called the Multnomah Hot Rod Council (Home of the Portland Roadster Show), an organization made up of several hot rod clubs around Northwest Oregon and Washington state. They did not, however have any pictures. (What's up with that??) I did, however also find an Oregon chapter of a So Cal based club called the Longroofs that specialize in delivery vans, woodies, wagons, Nomads...anything with a long roof made pre-1970. Check out their page for some pretty sweet pictures. | |||
Anyway, since there is the real possibility that I'll be relocating to the West Coast in somewhere under three years, I figured I should start looking around to see what the classic car "scene" is like (and by "scene" I mean who, what kind of cars, will they be respectful and helpful towards a young woman who wants to buy/build/restore her own pre-1970 car or are they just a bunch of punk-ass kids with elitest attitude problems or misogynistic middle-aged lard buckets with bursting wallets and billet bullshit?). Gee...for as much as I love old cars I sure have a sore spot about associating with others who do, don't I? Anyway, if you'd like to see the rest of my Portland car pictures, you can check out my Flickr Cars Set. If you know of any other Portland-related hot rod clubs/individuals I should know about or talk to, send me an email and let me know! Oh and lastly, while you're there, you should check out my favorite Flickr contact COOP's latest set of hot-rod related pictures from the Old Crow Speedshop. Sweet primer goodness! xoxo Kustom Kitten |
